Beer is Safe!

January 8, 2008

I am sure I don’t have to say anything else beyond the parameters of this story. This is from this morning’s newspaper in Sacramento:

CITRUS HEIGHTS – Investigators were trying Monday to determine if a suspected drunken driver involved in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night failed to buckle his own seat belt even as the 12-pack of beer on the passenger seat was safely secured.

Witnesses told police they saw the man driving north on Van Maren Lane in excess of 60 mph before he lost control of his car, which slammed into a tree near Garden Gate Drive.

The driver suffered serious head and body injuries and he was rushed to a local hospital. He was found in the driver’s seat, still unrestrained, next to a 12-pack of beer, which was still restrained by a seat belt.

The beer made it through the accident intact. The beer inside the driver probably did not.

Gallows humor; but drunk drivers so seldom pay their own price.

  1. I don’t get the part about “failed to buckle his own seat belt”. Was it buckled or not. Seems like a no brainer to me, was it buckled or not when they came to the accident scene? Wait! I read thru the rest of the story and he was found in the driver’s seat, still unrestrained.

Oh, we are so stupid in what’s important to us. What is the moral of this story? Make sure you buy enough alcohol before you start drinking so you don’t have to go out and buy more πŸ˜‰

  2. That’s a really good moral for those so inclined. Or the other moral could be “Look, I can prove it…my seat belts really do work.”
